Whilst commuting up to Falmer from Hove I'm always amazed at the state of the bikes I see going up to the unis. Let me get this straight: I'm far from a bike snob and really don't care about age or cost of kit but the amount of people cycling on flat tyres with their seatposts far too low is amazing. It is the bike equivalent of a jalopy! At redlights I'll often tell them if they pump their tyres up they'll find it easier to pedal and usually seem to manage to get it across without sounding like a wanker.

All that is required is a small (stripy?) tent set up on the Falmer Road, offering free bike fitting and tyre inflation. Nobody has track pumps and they are the quick fix really. Bike for Life is about to embark upon a project to 'bike-up' the Lewes Road and beyond. Anyone wanting to get involved please get in touch - nick@bikeforlife.org.uk

De a good idea nick, half inflated tyres must be making riding ten times harder that it should be!
